Educational Technology Leadership Program Overview

The Educational Technology Leadership program offers both a Master's Degree (MA) and Graduate Certificates. The Certificates are each 15 credit hours in length and are very focused on one aspect of the field like Instructional Design, E-learning or Multimedia Development. Whereas, the Master's Degree is 36 credit hours in length and is much broader and extensive in nature.

Master of Arts in Educational Technology Leadership

The Master's Degree program in Educational Technology Leadership is an innovative program designed to prepare individuals for leadership roles in improving teaching and learning through the application of educational technologies used in K-12 schools, higher education institutions, corporations, organizations, associations, governments and foundations.

The program is founded on three beliefs: (1) that leadership skills and technological competence are fundamental to the appropriate and successful utilization of technologies in educational settings, (2) that access to the requisite knowledge should be universal, despite the barriers of distance, personal physical limitations and lifestyle and (3) that educational technologies focus on improving human performance and learning.

Graduate Certificate in E-Learning
The Graduate Certificate in E-Learning provides those who desire to deliver learning materials at a distance with the foundational knowledge and skills required to design develop and implement effective materials for e-learning. The ideal candidates for this Certificate will be those who are already involved in the development of distance education or who have the desire to become involved in distance learning. Potential students might be current instructors teaching at a distance or those who would like to develop those skills. They will learn the skills necessary to be successful E-Teachers and E-Learners. The skills they will learn range from how to design effective instruction for a distance learning environment to how to evaluate critical issues in distance education to how to develop multimedia distance education materials. The Certificate prepares students to apply the theories, principles, models, tools, and techniques associated with E-Learning in diverse organizational settings.

Graduate Certificate in Instructional Design
The Graduate Certificate in Instructional Design provides students from varied professional backgrounds with the foundational knowledge and skills required to design and develop effective instruction for delivery in either the classroom or numerous other learning formats. From the assessment of needs and the analysis of learning objectives to the rapid-development of instructional materials and their evaluation, the Certificate prepares students to apply the theories, principles, models, tools, and techniques of systematic instructional design in diverse organizational settings.

Graduate Certificate in Multimedia Development
The Graduate Certificate in Multimedia Development provides students from varied professional backgrounds (e.g., educational, corporate, government, or e-learning settings) with comprehensive and foundational knowledge and skills required to design, develop, and evaluate multimedia materials for instructional purposes. The Certificate prepares students to apply theories, principles, technologies, and techniques for the development of multimedia materials to be used in their professional settings. Students will have opportunities to integrate their professional experiences into their learning, apply their course assignments to their current professional activities, and actively engage with other professionals in the development of multimedia materials.

Graduate Certificate in Training and Educational Technology
The technology-rich learning activities of today’s organizations require leaders that can guide the integration of instructional technologies with traditional classroom instruction as well as distance education (or e-learning). In response, the Graduate Certificate in Training & Educational Technology provides leaders from varied professional backgrounds (including the public and private sector) with the foundational knowledge and skills required to effectively lead organizations in the application of technologies in their learning activities. From conducting a needs analysis to applying the systematic design of instruction to evaluating the role of technology in leadership development and the assessment of distance education (or e-learning) opportunities, the Certificate prepares students to apply the theories, principles, models, and tools of instructional technology and distance education in diverse organizational settings.

Graduate Certificate in Leadership in Educational Technology
The Graduate Certificate in Leadership in Educational Technology provides students from varied backgrounds with the foundational knowledge and skills required to be effective leaders in an Educational Technology environment. The ideal candidates for this Certificate will be those who are already in leadership positions, but who lack formal instruction in educational technology, and those who aspire to become leaders in an Educational Technology environment. Potential students might be technology coordinators at schools or districts. They might also be classroom teachers or trainers. They will learn leadership skills including policy making with an emphasis on the use of technology in classrooms and other learning arenas. They will also learn how technology can be effectively applied in their organization. In this vein, they will be exposed to everything from software and hardware systems to the evaluation of sound educational technology software and implementation plans. The Certificate prepares students to apply the theories, principles, models, tools, and techniques associated with leadership into an educational technology environment.

Graduate Certificate in Integrating Technology into Education
The Graduate Certificate in Integrating Technology into Education provides students from varied educational professional backgrounds (including public and private sectors, K-12, and higher education) with the foundational knowledge and skills required to integrate technology effectively in their instruction. The Certificate, taught completely online, prepares students to apply, manage, and evaluate theories, standards, technologies, and techniques for integrating technology within their professional educational settings. Students will have opportunities to integrate their professional experiences into their learning, apply their course assignments to their current professional activities, and actively engage with other professionals for integrating technology within their professional educational settings.
